If your horse says no, you either asked the wrong question, or asked the question wrong.
~Pat Parelli

"One day your horse will say, 'The answer's yes! What's the question?'" — Pat Parelli

Seeing - Really Seeing our Horses....

We are often so busy and lead such stressed lives, that despite our best intentions we don't "see" our horses. We dont "see" the horse in front of us. Instead, we "see" what we project onto them. We don't consider who our horses are, how their day might have been, or what they like or dislike, especially if we haven't had the best of day ourselves.
We expect our horses to make us feel better, and don't... realize that maybe they need us to brighten their day. If you truly want to create a trust-based partnership with your horse, then put away the training tricks and look within yourself. Spend some time with your horse in their environment, just watching, listening, and enjoying nature. Let them just be themselves and let them discover you on their terms and their time. -Anna Twinney

A horse gallops with his lungs,
Perseveres with his heart,
And wins with his character.
~Tesio

Horses can educate through first hand, subjective, personal experiences, unlike human tutors, teachers, and professors can ever do. Horses can build character, not merely urge one to improve on it. Horses forge the mind, the character, the emotions and inner lives of humans. People can talk to one another about all these things and remain distanced and lonesome. In partnership with a horse, one is seldom lacking for thought, emotion and inspiration. One is always attended by a great companion.
~Charles de Kunffy

For what the horse does under compulsion, as Simon also observes, is done without understanding; and there is no beauty in it either, any more than if one should whip and spur a dancer.
~Xenophon - The Art of Horsemanship

Horsemanship is not merely a matter of bodily skills, but is based on scholarship and, therefore, is a matter of the mind and intellect. Good horsemanship is based on proper character development and, therefore, is also a matter of mentality and spirit. Without the correct attitudes and insights, there cannot be the right sport.
~Charles de Kunffy

Horses change lives. They give our young people confidence and self esteem. They provide peace and tranquility to troubled souls- they give us hope!
~Toni Robinson

...Wild to hold, though I seem tame.
~Thomas Wyatt

When God created the horse he said to the magnificent creature: I have made thee as no other. All the treasures of the earth lie between thy eyes. Thou shalt carry my friends upon thy back. Thy saddle shall be the seat of prayers to me. And thou fly without wings, and conquer without any sword. Oh, horse.
~The Qu'ran (Koran)
Note: The Qu'ran is the sacred book of Islam, which was written by the honorable Muhammad.

Ask me to show you poetry in motion, and I will show you a horse.

When in doubt, ask a horse.

A horse doesn't care how much you know until he knows how much you care.

A true horseman does not look at the horse with his eyes; he looks at his horse with his heart.

Wherever man has left his footprints in the long ascent from barbarism to civilization, we find the hoof print of a horse beside it.
~John Trotwood Moore

To understand the soul of a horse is the closest human beings can come to knowing perfection.

When a horse greets you with a nicker and regards you with a large and liquid eye, the question of where you want to be has been answered.

Where in this wide world can man find nobility without pride,
Friendship without envy,
Or beauty without vanity?
Here, where grace is served with muscle
And strength by gentleness confined
He serves without servility; he has fought without enmity.
There is nothing so powerful, nothing less violent.
There is nothing so quick, nothing more patient.
~Ronald Duncan, "The Horse," 1954

In riding a horse we borrow freedom.  ~Helen Thomson

A horse can lend its rider the speed and strength he or she lacks, but the rider who is wise remembers it is no more than a loan.  ~Pam Brown

No philosophers so thoroughly comprehend us as dogs and horses.
~Herman Melville

One must think when looking at a horse in motion, that it hears music inside its head.

At its finest, rider and horse are joined not by tack, but by trust. Each is totally reliant upon the other.  Each is the selfless guardian of the other's very well-being.

You took me to adventure and to love. We two have shared great joy and great sorrow.  And now I stand at the gate of the paddock watching you run in an ecstasy of freedom, knowing you will return to stand quietly, loyally, beside me.
~Pam Brown

He knows when you're happy. He knows when you’re comfortable. He knows when you're confident.

It's a lot like nuts and bolts - if the rider's nuts, the horse bolts!  ~Nicholas Evans

The horse you get off is not the same as the horse you got on. It is your job as a rider to ensure that as often as possible; the change is for the better.

There are many wonderful places in the world, but one of my favorite places is on the back of my horse.
~Rolf Kopfle

When God wanted to create the horse, he said to the South Wind, "I want to make a creature of you. Condense."  And the wind condensed.
~Emir Abd-El-Kader

10. "Pat Parelli proudly presents his program and the proclamation that prior and proper preparation prevents P-poor performance; particularly if polite and passive persistence is practiced in the proper position. This perspective takes patience, from process to product, from principle to purpose. The promise that Pat plans to prove is that practice does not make perfect, only perfect practice makes perfect, and isn't it peculiar how prey animals perceive people as predators and not partners."
